The recovery of three SIM cards owned by the young undergraduate student has left the cops pondering over the need for multiple connectivity alternatives. Though the family members did not find anything wrong in it as it was her father, Dashrath, who had procured the SIMs for her, the cops are smelling rat behind the move.
Monica was repeatedly stabbed to death on March 11. She was assaulted by unidentified assailants in broad daylight at Shree Nagar locality in Nandanvan. The cops are still unable to crack the case despite city police chief, Ankush Dhanvijay, forming more than seven teams including crime branch, to bring the culprits to book.
"It is not unusual to own two SIMs with one of them exclusively for family, friends and selected few and the other one for professional purposes. Owning another SIM seemed to be slightly abnormal and has raised up several grave questions," said a senior cop. "Three SIMs seemed to be leading to three different pool of connections that may be related or unrelated," he said.
The cyber cell of the city crime branch had been scanning through the details of the calls and messages made to and by Monica using the three SIM cards. The cops have been also engaged in checking the credentials of the callers or receivers and their relation with Monica but without much success so far.

The cops also feel that owning and maintaining the SIM cards, at various tariffs, may not have been easy for any regular undergraduate hailing from a middle class family from Ramtek. A section of cops felt that Monica may had money to maintain the three SIM cards.
"Though nothing unusual has been found out so far from the SIMs' details, there could be a separate set of people whom Monica knew. To whom she had given the number of a particular SIM that was not with the people who had the other two numbers. There may be someone among the contacts that Monica maintained who holds the key to the secret,' said the cop.
Meanwhile, Dhanvijay has requested women activists to furnish before the cops, any clues they might have found so as to provide justice to Monica. "I believe that several activists are also engaged wholeheartedly in gathering information. Police would be grateful to anyone bringing fresh inputs,' said the top cop.
